No, bodywork can be a valuable part of an overall wellness routine for performance horses, recreational horses, horses in transition, and retired horses. It can complement your existing conditioning, training, and care routine while supporting musculoskeletal health, circulation, mobility, and overall well-being. Regular bodywork may also help identify areas of tension or restriction early and support your horse’s body in maintaining balance and function, potentially helping to reduce the risk of injury.

Please allow approximately 60–90 minutes for your appointment. Each session is individualized, so the amount of time spent on assessment and hands-on work may vary depending on your horse's needs.

A little preparation helps make your horse’s session as productive and comfortable as possible! Before your appointment:Complete the intake form prior to your first session so I can review your horse’s history and any areas of concern beforehand.Choose a day / time convenient time when possible, avoiding conflicts with feeding, turnout, riding, veterinary procedures, or other major activities.Have someone familiar with your horse available for the first session, especially if they can provide additional insight into your horse’s history, behavior, or current concerns.Make sure your horse is clean and dry. A reasonably clean horse allows me to properly assess and work with their body.Provide a safe, quiet space where your horse can stand comfortably and relax during the session. If you plan to ride that day, it is generally best to work your horse before their bodywork session rather than afterward.Let me know about any recent changes in your horse's health, soundness, medications, veterinary care, or behavior before we begin. If you're ever unsure about whether your horse is ready for a session or have questions about preparing, feel free to reach out beforehand!

For your horse's first session, I ask that you be present to share your horse's history, any concerns, and to get us aquainted. You're welcome to stay and observe the session, or go about your day while your horse and I work together for the duration of our session. Once your horse is an established client, you don't necessarily need to be present for every appointment. If you're comfortable leaving your horse in my care and we've discussed any relevant updates beforehand, I’m happy to work with your horse while you're away. This will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Post-session recommendations will depend on your horse and the work performed. In general, giving your horse time to rest and move freely can be beneficial. I'll discuss any specific recommendations with you at the end of the session.

There is no one-size-fits-all schedule. Frequency depends on your horse's workload, age, lifestyle, individual needs, and goals. Some horses benefit from regular maintenance sessions 1-2x per month, while others may need more frequent support during periods of increased workload, transition, or recovery.

There are times when bodywork may not be appropriate or should be postponed to protect your horse’s health. Bodywork should not be performed when a horse has:A systemic feverA systemic infectionA contagious skin conditionCongestive heart conditionsCancer If your horse is experiencing lameness, an acute injury, or another unexplained change in health, please consult your veterinarian before scheduling a bodywork session. Bodywork is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment. If you’re unsure whether bodywork is appropriate for your horse, please reach out. I’m happy to discuss your horse’s situation and determine whether it’s appropriate to proceed.

Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows me to adjust my travel schedule and offer the appointment time to another client when possible. Life with horses can be unpredictable, and I understand that emergencies happen. If you need to make a last-minute change, please reach out as soon as possible.
